Reading Wrapped 2025

As any lingering sense of justice and order deteriorates around us, I think it's vital that we continue to lean into art as a form of honesty, vulnerability and resistance. As devastating as scrolling social media has been, asking us to bear witness to murder, it has also proven its worth another way. Today, I found myself scrolling through one video after another of fresh protest songs, written with raw grief, fierce anger, and sharp wit.

I get dozens of book recommendations through social media, fiction and non-fiction alike. If you're at all like me (and I bet you are if you're reading this) then adding good books to your tbr is a small form of hope. It says there's something to live for and look forward to. Hope is one of the most important things we can hold on to in times of turmoil.

So in light of that, I'm finally sharing my reading wrapped from last year, including my favorites. Let me know if you've read any of these or if I've convinced you to give them a try this year.

Total books read: 46
Most Read Genre: Thriller (16 books)

Longest Book Read:

The Will of the Many by James Islington

Read if if you like fantasy and dark academia, and you want the world to be easy to understand.

My Favorite Prose:

Brutes by Dizz Tate

If you're a sucker for imagery and summer girlhood vibes, you might like this.

Most Interesting Concept:

Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall

This reminded me of the Witch's Road from Agatha All Along, but with a sharper horror-edge.

Rose Above My Expectations:

Starling House by Alix. E. Harrow

At first, the tone of the writing threw me off because it felt a bit cozy. But the rest of the story was solid, and somehow the vibe worked, despite this being a haunted house story.

The Book I Think Everyone Should Read:

Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates

This one is a tough read, but it's really, really important.

My Favorite All-Around Read:

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant

I freaking love a story about sirens that's actually creepy. While I usually care most about characters, and they aren't necessarily the focus of this story, the atmosphere here is immaculate. I sort of feel like this is reminiscent of Jurassic Park, except with killer mermaids. Which is pretty cool.

Honorable Mentions:

An Academy of Liars by Alexis Henderson

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

The White Book by Han Kang

If you read this recap and think of more titles you think I'd like, please share! I would love another sliver of hope in my life.

Stay resilient and protect one another.
